Come on out to Beaver Hill Park tomorrow (105 street and Jasper ave) afternoon (12-4pm) to take part in a celebration of all things Bike. Whether you’re looking for information, music and performances, or swag from our affiliates, or just an opportunity to mingle with other members of Edmonton’s growing cyclist community, you’ll find something for you there tomorrow. And the weather’s looking wonderful as well!

The exciting part this year is that the streets will come alive around the Beaver Hill Park area. 102 ave will be closed for Park(ed). This runs through the Downtown Farmers’ market – a nice destination in its own right – and connects to Churchill Square, where the ‘Rock the Square’ festival (a free local rock concert)  is being held. If any one of these interests you, why not walk or bike through all of them as a wonderful way to spend a Saturday?

Repair-A-Thon

Exactly what it says on the tin – 30 hours of nonstop repair and refurbishment at BikeWorks. The brave souls who signed up for the full, Ironman-esque duration deserve a round of applause.

Polo Velo Invitational

It’s like polo, but on bikes. Sunday saw an open tournament, accepting any pick-up participants who wanted to give it a shot.

Critical Lass

A stylish ride organized by and for the ladies. This was covered by Metro Edmonton and made the front page of Monday’s Edmonton Journal! There’s also a wonderful post on this event at Loop-Frame Love.

In the summer of 2006 Owen Hunt Richel was a five year old little boy recovering from aggressive chemotherapy, but that didn’t stop him from riding his bicycle across the High Level Bridge during the June Critical Mass. It would one of the last bike rides Owen would go on; Owen died from cancer in early 2007. Join the Owen Hunt Richel Memorial Critical Mass this Friday starting at 5:30 in front of City Hall…bring a water gun, Owen loved a good water fight!

Mechanics will be on hand for 24 hours to teach you how to fix and maintain your bicycle. Bikeworks is a non-profit bike shop that specializes in teaching people to be self-reliant cyclists. You can learn about bike mechanics even if you know nothing about tools. Usually there’s a shop fee, but for the Repair-a-thon the Edmonton Bicycle Commuters are waving that fee! There may be some wee charge if you need some of our salvaged bike parts.

More Bike Breakfast Photos

Wednesday, June 3rd is Clean Air Day and you are invited to participate in the Amazing Annual Commuter Race. Participants will compete against each other using eco-friendly modes of transportation.

The race starts at 7:30 a.m. at Parkallen Community Hall (65 Avenue & 111 Street) and the celebration ends at 9:30 a.m. at City Hall (#1 Sir Winston Churchill Square).
Any eco-friendly method of travel will work — from cycling, carpooling, and public transit to rollerblading, jogging and skateboarding.
The event is FREE, and there will be food, refreshments and prizes!
