Bikeology: Monday Movies at Metro 2012 (and our Outdoor Movie, too)

The constant whirl of the weekend is over and the Monday pall is hanging low… May we suggest you come out to one of our fabulous Bikeology: Monday Movies at the Metro?  Not only do they feature bicycles in all their glory, this year they feature LOCALLY filmed bicycle shorts and documentaries… As well, if that is not enough incentive, the movies are all free. Figure that…

Keep in mind, the Metro has moved… It’s new location is at Edmonton’s historic Garneau Theatre, at the southern end of the High Level Bridge, at 8712 109 ST NW

To aid in you decision making process, we have created a Bikeology: Movie Rating Guide, which in no way aligns with the Alberta Censorship Board (found here http://www.parentpreviews.com/movie-ratings/alberta-canada).  Instead our rating shows you how integral to the plot line bicycles are.

–    Bicycles show up randomly in the movie

– Bicycles show up a good 50% of the time in the movie

– Bicycles are the main theme of the movie

We are still working on getting the movie line up for the Metro Mondays, however once they have been decided, you’ll find them both here and at Metro Cinema

Monday June 4

Tonight we feature the BEST of Bike Reel (just in case you missed that!) and “Life Cycles” filmed in Canada – (47 minutes) – Winner of Best Film at 2011 Vancouver International Mountain Film Fest.

Monday June 11

Wee, remember riding a bike when you were young?  Tonight we feature more Bike Shorts and “The Kid With A Bike” (87 min) – Cannes award-winner from Belgium!

Monday June 18

We’ll be watching 2009′s “Bicycle Dreams” (104 minutes), on the world’s toughest bike race. Follows some of the individuals on their pursuit of completing RAAM (Race Across America) a solo bicycle race across the USA in 12 days (or less)  The film gives you some perspective on what motivates these men and women to attempt something this grueling and how their perspective of what is important to them changes as the race goes on.

Monday June 25

Our final movie of the series is the Edmonton feature “Bike Heist”, which is the long awaited fabo bike film featuring the very lovely Edmonton Bicycle Commuters’ Society

NOTE THE FOLLOWING  MOVIE IS NOT AT THE METRO!!!!

JUNE  23 Special Event – Outdoor Ride-in Movie at Victoria Cricket Pitch.

Our renowned Outdoor Ride In Movie, powered by bicycle…

Ahh… the scent of citronella wafts through the air,  the last strains of pedal powered music have died away, however the buzz continues as it is finally dark enough to start the wonder-full Outdoor Ride-In Movie – Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid.  You cuddle in with your bike and your picnic snack, await your turn on the power source, and the velo love spins tonight… and as an added bonus there is no need to get up early to go to that spin class…. oh, yeah…

Bring your own snacks, mozzie repellant, blankets and something warm and dry to sit on.  Come at 8:00 p.m. for live music and when it gets dark, you will enjoy the classic 1969 movie where bank/train robbers also use bikes…really…

RATING:

  1. Alan Schietzsch’s avatar

Would be good to add to each event’s posting:
    – if there’s a fee (how much $ or Free?),
    – the Citadel/Metro’s address
    – that Metro’s a somewhat hidden “side door”, etc.

Not everyone knows, and it’s important to reach out and include everyone. And looks friendlier, saves link hunting.

Good idea Alan, all events are free, but perhaps this is not as clear as it could be!
