In June 2009, Kaley Bird was selected as one of “Alberta’s Hidden Gems,” which was part of a series produced by ACCESS television.  This local sentiment was quickly confirmed with an invitation to perform at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival.

With confidence and unwavering ambition, 22-year old Bird is just at the beginning of her career.  She returns home from touring on Jan. 31, 2010 to begin recording her second album and will also be performing at Canadian Music Week in an official festival showcase this March. As Birds career unfolds under the collective eyes and ears of her national audience they can eagerly anticipate her next release.
Unpretentious, down-to-earth and heartfelt acoustic music.
Ben Disaster‘s sound is informed by Stiff Records, Billy Bragg and the best of ’70s punk, Woody Guthrie and early Americana, 1960s pop and garage; and childhood singalongs with his giant extended family on Canada’s East Coast. Ben’s debut album, Lloyd Tillman Is…, is due out on Thought Crime Ink late this summer. Also catch him fronting energetic Edmonton punk group Let’s Dance.
Escola de Samba de Edmonton means “Edmonton Samba School” in Portuguese. They are a local band committed to teaching and performing “Samba de Enredo” in the tradition of the samba schools of Brazil. Samba de Enredo is the rhythm that propels the annual Carnival celebrations in Rio de Janeiro. At the heart of the Samba de Enredo is the Bateria, a rhythmic ensemble made up almost exclusively of percussion; often hundreds strong.
Formed in 2009, members of Escola de Samba de Edmonton originate from North and South America as well as Europe. We always welcome new members, no experience or instruments are required. Come and learn the most intense rhythms on the planet!!
Paula Eve Kirman is a Western Canada-based singer/songwriter who writes and performs music with a message. Whether singing about life, love, social concerns, or spirituality, she focuses on the passion behind the words. Much of Paula’s work deals with social justice, in no small part due to her active involvement in the peace movement and a variety of other causes such as poverty and the environment.
Brian McLeod has been immersed in music since infancy, and has performed at the Winspear Centre, the Parihaka International Peace Festival in New Zealand, the Centre for Spiritual Living, Folk Clubs, Yoga Studios, Churches, and farmers’ markets. He has studied and taught Yoga in Quebec, California, and New Zealand, and is currently writing, recording, and performing music in Edmonton.  He will be performing at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival this summer on the U22 stage.
Think Elvis Costello if he grew up on the Canadian Prairies listening to Gordon Lightfoot and you’ll have Paul Bellows.  Paul has released three recordings over the last 12 years, has been chosen as a Top 12 DIY record by Performing Songwriter Magazine, featured on national and regional CBC shows, receives regular CKUA airplay and won a Western Canadian Music Award for his latest record, “Tape Deck Classics”.
Paul is currently working on a 4th record due out in Fall 2010 and moonlights around Edmonton as a session tambourine and trumpet player.

Remember the moment, on the second date, when you weren’t sure if you should lean in for that humble kiss? The glance to the left after your wide eyes held each other just a moment too long? Doug Hoyer does, and he’ll refresh your memories with melodies.

Mad Mitch Matic is a musician on many fronts. Get at him if you need an emcee, producer, pianist, composer, percussionist (i.e. bongos, djembe, cajon, etc.), drummer, or saxophonist. Most often, he writes and performs raps. Less often, he records those raps.
