Park(ed) Challenge and MEC Bikefest 2010

Two upcoming events put on by affiliates – join in and help out! Both take place concurrently with the big Bikeology festival this Saturday, so if you’re coming to one, come out to all! Check below the fold for video and details!

Park(ed) Challenge

We will be downtown on Saturday, JUNE 19, between 12 and 4, closing off 102 Avenue between 104 and 100 street.  We are adjacent to the Downtown Farmers’ Market, and, as an added bonus, the Bikeology and Rock the Square Festivals are within walking or cycling distance.
If you wish to participate in the challenge, or just stop by, check out edmonton.ca/activedmonton for registration or more details.   Come help us celebrate cycling, ecomobility, and green spaces in Edmonton.

MEC BikeFest

MEC Bikefest showcases a wide range of non-motorized activities, and encompasses the sheer joy of meandering on a street closed to traffic and the opportunity to transform a cityscape to an urban paradise landscape for a short time. With clinics and displays of all kinds, there will be plenty of opportunities to learn about cycling and feast on local bike culture. Plus there’s our MEC Bike Swap, where you can upgrade or trade out your cycling goods. And you can enjoy it all in a fabulous car-free environment.

The day will also feature access to various local foodstuffs, initiatives, and events such as the Ciclovia on 102 Avenue, the Park(ed) festival, access to the Downtown Farmers’ Market, Bikeology Festival Day, and the Rock the Square festival.

Location

MEC Bikefest is located on 102 Avenue as it runs along the heart of downtown Edmonton, from Sir Winston Churchill Park, to the 104 Street Farmer’s Market. From there it is a short pedal to the Bikeology Festival Day at 105 Street and Jasper Avenue. There is ample parking for both bicycles and other vehicles; however, we do encourage you to ride. The LRT is also close by, as is the river valley, and with all the bikey events on in the month there will be many cyclists on your journey. We’ll see you there.
